Big City Dreamin

Thursday was my day off and so my cousin Melissa and I ventured off to the big city for a day out. Toronto has always had a special place in my heart, and any given opportunity to visit the big city, I'll be there in a heart beat. The fast paced lifestyle, sophisticated people, and the high energy environment, what's not to love about Toronto? Hamilton's a great city, but Toronto is where I belong, just a sidenote on my relationship with Toronto. What was planned as a day of shopping soon turned into an adventure to the Royal Ontario Museum, to check out the anticipated exhibit on the ancient Mayan culture. We explored the Eatons Centre, the Bay, and for once tried on a classic and amazing Burberry trench coat (which I'm considering to purchase for my birthday). We ended our fantastic Thursday at one of the best restaurants I've ever had the pleasure of dining in, Brassaii (seriously, I'll be coming back!). It's always so much fun and never a dull moment when partnered up with my cousin whom I share so many interests with. Toronto, we'll be back!

Mama, the Queen of my heart.

(L-R): MY MOM IN BAGUIO CITY CIRCA 1980s, MOM WITH MY GRANDFATHER, MOM AND I ON THE DAY I WAS BORN, POSING IN NIAGARA FALLS, CUDDLING IN BED WITH MOM, MOM WITH MY SISTER AND I AT SAM LAWRENCE PARK, DAD AND MOM AT AUNTIE VENUS' 50TH BDAY DINNER, MOM AND DAD BEFORE CHRISTMAS PARTY 2010, MOM AND I ON MY HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION

Wishing the warmest birthday greetings to the girl in my life for all time, my mom! Today my family and I will be celebrating the woman who holds our family together, the eternal source of unconditional love and compassion, the driving force in our lives, the individual whom we literally owe everything to. I do give my mom so much credit for shaping the person who I am today - all the life lessons, teachings, guidance, and endless lectures, have truly stuck with me throughout my twenty years living. Growing up, my relationship with my parents were very much on the rocks and wasn't the greatest. Nevertheless, we all learned to rise above and overcome every situation as a family. I am very blessed to have such parents who love me beyond any limit. She is everything and more that any mother could be, and I do love her with all my heart. Happy Birthday, Mom, and cheers to the next 46 and many, many more!

How can it be that right here with me there's an angel? It's a miracle...Your love is like a river - peaceful and deep. Your soul is like a secret that I never could keep. When I look into your eyes, I know that it's true; God must have spent a little more time on you.

Quiet before the storm

JACKET/BLAZER, PLAIN BLACK TEE, CHINOS, AND ANKLE BOOTS FROM H&M, NAUTICA LEATHER BELT, NECKLACES FROM ALDO

Most people probably recognize my style since I practically wear the same pair of slim skinny black jeans. I believe that black is the most neutral colour that can be matched with everything and anything, not to mention it's slimming effect that most people appreciate. My black pair of skinny jeans have proven to be my security blanket, my go-to and without a doubt my favourite pair of jeans to wear on any given day. However, upon waking up and pondering of what to wear for today, I felt compelled to be a little adventurous and opted for a new pair of camel coloured chinos. So I grabbed my debit card and proceeded to the nearest H&M to purchase my new pair of skinnies. The colour of the chinos are a perfect transition into any season, and being a neutral and skinny - just ideal.

On the other hand, I've been lavishly swiping and inserting my poor debit card into every interac machine, leaving little to nothing left in my Chequings account. I swear, every time the pay cheque cashes in, the money is gone faster than it took to actually process. Someone please sign me up for a shopaholic intervention/management, asap. Thanks.

Happy People

THRIFTED VEST, STRIPED T-SHIRT, BOOTS AND JEANS FROM H&M, AVIATOR SUNGLASSES FROM ALDO AND LEVI'S BELT.

I'm going to try to do things differently, more-so my own way and share a little bit about myself. But what is this? On the second post and not on the obligatory and expected introduction post?! Oh how scandalous of myself (God, I'm such a dork). There is a little more to me than what the short blurb on the right describes, and I'm sure I'll be sharing a lot in the future (or so I hope). So without further ado:
• My name is Reno Rebamontan and not Reno Monae. The name Monae was derived from a one of my favourite artists, the goregous and talented Janelle Monae. Monae is purely an alias that has been prolonged since 2011.
• I was a former Visual Arts student. That covers everything from traditional painting, drawing, sculpting, design, photography, and everything else in between. All throughout my Elementary and High School years, I always believed I would start a career and life based on my artistic talent. However, that changed after one year in University, where I studied Art History and came to some conclusion that art really wasn't the direction I thought I wanted, but that's on a whole different tangent. After months of deliberation, careful consideration, and reflection, I've turned to Nursing and hopefully will start in the fall of this year.
• I'm the kind of person who tries not to take things so seriously, the kind of person who wants to make each day an adventure and unforgettable, the kind of person who wants to find a connection with each individual I encounter and leave a positive lasting impression. Yup, that's me, and hopefully I'll be able to share all of that (and more) on this blog.

Sidenote: I've scored a job interview with an establishment that I've had my eye one for months now. If I only took a picture of the smile I had, from literally ear to ear. That was certainly the highlight of my day (aside from the unimaginable amounts of Starbucks coffee I consumed). Updates to follow!

How to speak trench

Shirt, skinny jeans, and trench coat from H&M, Aviator sunglasses from Aldo, and thrifted Oxfords.

I could say that I am an expert at these obligatory blog-introduction posts since every couple months, I find myself stepping back into the waters of the blogging world. For an individual who's free time is spent on reading and getting inspired by other people's blogs, I find it only fitting that I should continue on this course that I've set out for myself numerous times over. So here I am, for the millionth time, reintroducing myself, Reno Monae of the blog, Reno Monae (I know that sounds a little redundant, but I'm going to go with it).
For those living in the vicinity of Hamilton and the GTA, would undoubtedly agree that today's weather was extremely phenomenal. A staggering sixteen degrees matched with the gorgeous sun and easy breeze, it could not have been a better day - in my case at least. I spent the day with my twin sister: first starting off the morning with some coffee at Starbucks, window shopped at Petsmart for my new Dachshund puppy, followed up with lunch at Ikea, and finally made our way to spend some of my take-home cash tips at H&M (hello new pair of boots). Day off from work, amazing weather, day spent with my sister whom I never get to see because I'm such a workaholic, a new blogpost, and a whole lot of Starbucks & Instagram pictures in between, definitely makes for a great day.
